1st day in Africa!

It really hit me as I was on the plane to Cape Town (12 hour flight), during the night ; I suddenly realized I was actually on a one-way trip to South Africa, travelling for at least 9-10 months, with just 2 backpacks and not that much planned! With all the trip preparation of the last few days, and saying goodbye to everyone, I had almost forgotten what I had gotten myself into. I have to say it was a bit scary at first, but quickly excitement took over!

My arrival in Cape Town went very well, the owners of my hostel came to pick me up, they were super friendly and warm, they made me feel very welcome, that was a really good start. I took the time to settle a bit in my dorm, and then went out to discover the city a bit!

The city's characteristic and beauty is that even though it's at the ocean, it's surrounded with mountains:

After a bit a walking around I reached the very rich neighbourhood of the Waterfront, in complete contrast with the rather poor city center I had gone through so far. South Africa is a country of striking inequalities, I already saw some "Townships" on my way from the airport, which look like the favellas from South America ; meanwhile a very rich, predominantly white population is having a Californian lifestyle in the super secured neighbourhood of the Waterfront.

There is a lot of animation there, and people playing music, or just singing and dancing!

I also got to see some cute seals just sunbathing there!

The Waterfront was definitely a pretty place to see, but seemed very artificial and not representative of the country or even the rest of the city, with security guards every 20 meters and a very rich environment.

Tomorrow I'll try to explore a bit more, including some more typical neighbourhoods of Cape Town, and walk along the sea!
